NEW SERVICES TO BE ADDED
Supported Independent Living (SIL)
We can help you find a suitable home with our Supported Independent Living (SIL) and accommodation options.
Happy Carers is a provider of Supported Independent Living across Victoria for Adults with complex needs associated with mental health or a dual disability.
Our services are suitable for people between the ages of 18 and 65. The people we work with are encouraged and supported to live independently in group homes or their own home.
Our support workers help people with the daily tasks in their homes and in the community so that people can live a fulfilling life that is as independent as possible. For example, our staff support people to build skills in:
– Nutrition and cooking meals
– Cleaning and laundry
– Personal care
– Going to appointments
– Medication assistance
– Taking up hobbies
– Engaging with the local community
– Learning to catch public transport
– Having the voice and choice to thrive
SDA/ Shared Accommodation
Through our shared accommodation services, we provide a communal living solution that ideally suits two to five people. Housemates are appropriately and meticulously selected, in order to create a harmonious environment and promote positive relationships and interactions.
SDA refers to accommodation for people who require specialist housing solutions, including to assist with the delivery of supports that cater for their extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) will be funded separately to Supported Independent Living in your NDIS plan.

SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION (RESPITE)
What is Short Term Accommodation
Formerly known as Respite, Short Term Accommodation is a short stay in a welcoming home for people with disabilities. Our STA enables people with a disability to experience living away from home in a supportive environment.
Short term accommodation provides you with the opportunity to also meet new friendly people, as well as explore new experience and environment. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. All dietary requirements can be catered for, if you have any specific needs, please let us know in advance.
Person – Centred approach
We take an individualised approach, meaning the stay will be tailored to your specific interests and needs. Activities will be flexible but designed with your goals, development and skills in mind.
How Long Can I Stay?
You can stay for a day, a night, a week or even longer!
Have a look at your NDIS plan to see the type of funding that’s included.
Our service is based in Gisborne and provides short term accommodation for people aged 18-25 years who live at home.
The house is purpose-built with 4 bedrooms and has the capacity to be split into two separate units with separate living areas. Activities include community outings, in-house games, sensory activities, art and craft and movie nights.
Bookings are scheduled in advance and cater for different lengths of time, usually 1-3 nights at a time.
NDIS participants will need to ensure that they have adequate Short Term Accommodation (STA) at the 1:2 rate to cover service costs.
