About NDIS
The NDIS – the National Disability Insurance Scheme – is for people who need assistance taking part in everyday life.
Some mental health issues can make it hard to do day to day things like finding a job, going to work or training, catching up with friends, looking after your health – or just getting out and about.
The NDIS is a new way of funding support. Instead of funding going directly to services, it will come to you, and you get to decide the supports you want to buy. This means you are in charge, and you choose what you need to live the life you want.
The money for the NDIS is funded through the tax system. The costs are shared across the whole community.
If you live in the Newcastle, Maitland or Lake Macquarie local government areas in the Hunter region, the NDIS started in 2013.
If you live in one of the following areas, the NDIS starts from 1 July 2016:
- Hunter/New England
- Central Coast
- Nepean/Blue Mountains
- Western Sydney
- South Western Sydney
- Northern Sydney
- Southern NSW
- Contact NDIs to establish your eligibility. If you are eligible, NDIS coordinator will contact you to establish your plan management. We can assist you in getting ready for your meeting with the NDIS coordinator.
- Once your plan is approved by the NDIS, our care coordinator will arrange a meeting with you and provide a quote based on your goals and support required.
- If you choose to engage HappyCares as your NDIS service provider, we will offer you a Service Agreement. A Service agreement is contract between us and you, the agreement will contain detailed information of what supports will be delivered, how they will be delivered and how long.
